In 1930, Nishitetsu Watch Co., Ltd. was officially established with the aim of manufacturing watches that are "loved by the citizens and close to them". Nishitetsu continues to innovate, launching Japan's earliest shock resistant watch in 1956, successfully developing a waterproof watch in 1959, and even introducing one of the world's earliest ultra-thin watches, Exceed Gold, in 1978. These innovations and efforts have enabled Seiko to maintain a leading position in the international watch industry.
