In 1950, when Jean Jacques Fiechter joined Blancpain, he began developing a wristwatch to accompany professional divers. He himself is passionate about underwater exploration, so he understands that such a watch must be sturdy, waterproof, reliable, and easy to read.
Two years later, he contacted Robert "Bob" Maloubier and Claude Riffaud, the founders of Combat Swimmers, a military unit composed of powerful divers performing deep-sea missions. This watch named Fifty Fathoms was born in 1953 and quickly passed the testing and approval of Combat Swimmers, and was added to their equipment.
This year, the brand located in the Jura Valley launched a limited edition of 300 Fifty Fathoms Nageurs de combat watches to pay tribute to these underwater experts. The design inspiration of this watch comes from the original watch, featuring a 45mm stainless steel case and a unidirectional rotating bezel on the top. The bezel is engraved with luminous markings and protected by a curved sapphire ring. The sturdy watch back is engraved with the military unit's qualification badge, which consists of an anchor and two winged seahorses.
